Spring Play
Shakespeare’s Depictions of Love: In case you haven’t heard, the play was not performed for a live audience, but recorded like a movie instead. We held a “Premiere” for the cast and their families and then posted the show on YouTube for anyone to watch for free. Click here to watch a collection of Shakespeare’s plays.
For safety reasons and so that they could perform without a mask, we recorded only 1 student’s performance at a time then edited it together so it looks like they are sharing the stage with their scene partner(s). It was a strange way to do theater for sure! If you know any of the cast members, be sure to ask them about the process. I know they’d love to chat about it. There is also a little behind-the-scenes look at the recording process during the end credits.

Congratulations

Some of you have asked if there is some way you can support the Seniors as they prepare to leave Kenowa Hills. If you would like to make a donation of a gift card, to be used for prizes at the Senior All Night Party, I have a collection box located in my office (ATHLETICS). The concept is that we are soliciting gift cards from parents, community members, family, friends, staff, etc. that would like to contribute or donate in some way. The gift card can be to anywhere (your choice!), can be any amount (no minimum or max) and will be given anonymously at the all night party. We all know this year has been difficult and unusual under the circumstances. Thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity! I am honored to be a staff member for Kenowa Hills Public Schools! Feel free to Vicki Bekins with questions or concerns. GO KNIGHTS!

2021-22 Class Assignments: The time has started where teachers place students into class lists for the following school year. When placing students, staff members assign children to classrooms that will meet their intellectual, social and emotional needs. Teachers use many factors to determine student placement for the following year. These factors include: finding a match between the student’s learning style and the teacher’s teaching style; grouping students into similar and workable academic groups; dividing classrooms into even numbers of boys and girls; and placing students who work well together in the same classroom. If you would like to have input into this process, we have Child Learning Environment Forms that can be scanned, emailed or sent home with your child for completion. Please call our office to request this form, receive more information or if you have any questions. Thank you!

Support our Athletic Boosters! As you may have heard, the Kenowa Hills Athletic Boosters is unable to host the annual ‘Knight Out’ Raffle Event this year due to the COVID pandemic. Instead, we are planning to host a Virtual Event, with a reverse raffle drawing to safely benefit our athletes. Please see the above flyer for details!!!

Thanks to your generosity, the KH Athletic Boosters have contributed as much as $75,000 in a single year to directly support our KH athletes. More than ever, we need your support to help our student athletes again this year! The cancellation of our KH Boosters fundraising events, concession sales, spirit store sales and overall economic impact of the pandemic have greatly affected our incoming revenue. Unfortunately this will directly affect our ability to support our athletic programs.

You may purchase tickets through Venmo - @Kenowahills-AthleticBoosters or contact Jeff Tuttle, (616)813-3127.

Also, please BRAVELY AND BOLDLY spread the word, so we can continue supporting our athletes!!

March Students of the Month! Great job students showing Encouragement, our True Success theme, and modeling being a Kid Who Cares! A special congratulations to 5th Grader Loren VandeKerkhoff for earning our Zinser Elementary Schoolwide Student of the Month!

Direct Contact for School Nurse:
As many of you are aware, we have been fortunate as a school to have our school nurse, Rachael Boafo, available to support students, families and staff as needed this school year. Due to our school schedule as well as the availability of our school nurse, we want to ensure that parents have the opportunity to connect directly with her based on need. If parents have a need to connect with our nurse, please call or text her cell phone directly at 616-258-9875 or via email at rboafo@khps.org. We hope this will provide a response to questions during the school day as well as outside of the school day when necessary. As always, you may continue to contact our school office as well and we can assist you with connecting with our nurse as needed.

Upcoming Dates for Alpine Events:

Field Day
We are currently in the process of planning for a field day on June 1.This year it will look different than in past years as grade level staff will simply be selecting activities that they can do with their students and as a grade during a specific time frame on that day.

Students will have the opportunity to dunk the principal and enjoy an obstacle course once again as a reward for finishing the schoolyear strong! Please stay tuned for more information as plans become solidified.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to have volunteers this year.

NO SCHOOL for KINDERGARTEN: May 4, 2021
Spring is just around the corner and plans are underway to host the 2020-21 Kindergarten and K-Knight students and their parents at Kindergarten Orientation. Alpine Elementary Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Because kindergarten teachers host this event, there will be no school for your Alpine Kindergartener or K-Knight student on Tuesday May 4.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we welcome the Kenowa Hills Class of 2034!
